I met Victor Hugo the other day, and his beautiful wife, Carmen. They own the Diana Victoria motel and restaurant on the road to Jarabacoa in the mountains here. They really have their heart into this place, and Victor has his passion for gadgets, with collections of old typewriters, phones and other short-lived technology. As we talked in two languages over beers that night, Victor hauled out an old filmstrip projector and shone it on the trees as traffic passed by. We made shadow hand puppets and had a good ol' time. If you're in the area, drop in to revisit your life in technology, with Victor's collection of old cell phones, from the original bag phone (1980s) to the brick (1990s) and Nokia stick phones, to the first folding phone, the Motorola Star Tac and so on. |
