Beaches
You can't visit a Caribbean island without snapping a few beaches, and photographing beaches in the D.R. is a real snap. I didn't spend a lot of time in the sand here, but I enjoyed the beaches tremendously.
Buildings
Businesses and industry
Dominicans are very resourceful and will find the most creative ways to earn a living.

Church builders in Burocu, Dominican Republic
They were called by powers larger than life, and built a church to answer the call.
My first adventure in the D.R. put me on a bus to the small town of Mao, then on a "GwaGwa" or shared taxi service to the village of Burocu where I met up with a half dozen men from Whiteville who had been there for a week building a church.

Food
One thing about food here is to not think about it -- just eat it. But most of the food was delicious.
Hotels
Spending five weeks here, I went on the cheap wherever possible (average $23 U.S. per night) so I stayed in some places I'm not really proud of. But that never stops me from shooting...
Plants
I can't identify any of these, but who needs a name with all this beauty?
Transportation
The internal combustion engine has transformed our planet, and the Dominican Republic has not been left out. You'll find many full-size American cars and trucks here - and a few Porshe Cayennes and Harley-Davidson motorcycles - but mostly you'll find smaller, more efficient and LOUDER vehicles.
My motorcycle
I had a blast riding around the island for two weeks on a rented motorcycle (called a "moto" in Haiti or a "motore" in the D.R.) At only 125cc I rarely saw speeds above 60 mph, but at only a few hundred pounds I could take it anywhere. I went up mountains and down dirt roads, I cruised through small towns and big cities, and overnight I tucked it away in some unusual places.
If a hotel owner didn't have a night security guard, he or she usually asked me to park my motorcycle inside, and things got pretty strange.
