MOLDOVA
During my 27 months in Moldova volunteering for the U.S. Peace Corps, I took many photos and videos. I lived in a small city in the north named Riscani, and most of my work, (CLICK HERE,) is from there. Below, are a dozen albums of photos taken during short trips around the country.

May 26-28, 2017 - Southern Moldova - My brother, Doug, showed up in Moldova, so we took a short trip to Buchareșt, Romania. Here are photos of the Moldova part.
July 9, 2016 - Edineț, Moldova - I walked around the largest city in the district north of mine, Edineț, last weekend, and took a few pics. That day, I saw an abandoned Ferris wheel, which was oddly eerie, and I walked 16 miles, just so I could say I did Take the Lake in 2016!

October 8, 2015 - Chisinau, Moldova - N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall visited the Republic of Moldova to renew the state's partnership program with the Eastern-European country and former Soviet state. The program, in its 16th year, has coordinated hundreds of events involving medical, educational, agricultural and military personnel, and evolved from a 1993 partnership between Moldova and the N.C. National Guard.

July 23, 2015 – Soviet Occupation display, Chisinau, Moldova – Saw this set of banners on a corner along Strada Stephen Cel Mare, and wanted to read it, but my Romanian isn't up to the task. Took these with my iPhone and may reshoot it with a better camera if I get the chance. Anyway, I think this is an important – at least a fascinating – period in Moldovan history. July 3, 2015 - Central Market, Chisinau, Moldova - I go crazy in places like this, even though I buy very little. Whenever I visit a country, I look for the big city and the markets, and I can spend hours there. It took the better part of a day to wind my way through this one, getting lost and getting found. Most of it was pretty common; blocks filled with hundreds of hardware sellers, then blocks of clothing, and blocks of produce, electronics, etc. But here I found a very special cheese market and two meat markets that were beautiful in their architecture and people.

May 15 & 16, 2017 - Volintiri, Moldova - I just love wandering around aimlessly, aiming my camera at beautiful things. Moldova is filled with beautiful things, so I was excited to accept Inna and Igor Hincu's invitation to photograph the village of Volintiri, way in the south near Tiraspol. Igor works for Volintiri's mayor, who wants to print a calendar to raise money for a museum in the former home of the famous opera singer Maria Bieșu. More photos

December 6, 2015 - Orheiul Vechi, Moldova - Our friend, Silviu Dumitris and his father, Valeziu, drove us to a beautiful monastery atop a mountain ridge, about two hours away from our home. We climbed all over the place, all the while wondering what it must have been like to be there during the world wars, and during the centuries that have defined this beautiful place.
September 12, 2015 - Druitorea Veche, Moldova - Our friend, Silviu, invited James Buchanan, Logan Hulsey and me for a tour of Druitorea Veche and the nearby cliffs. We piled into his uncle Alecu's car and enjoyed a few hours of thrilling cliff climbing and dramatic scenery. The village is on the Prut River, and from the top of the cliffs, you get a beautiful view of Eastern Romania. (Silviu, click here for photos of your family.)
August 22, 2015 - "War & Peace Tour," Northern Moldova - (This slide show now includes several photos of churches and monasteries in Moldova. Jan. 10, 2017) -- On Saturday, I joined 19 employees of the Riscani Raion (county) council and their friends for a tour of three monasteries, a fortress and a tiny church, with a great masa thrown in.

July 14, 2015 - National History & Ethnic Museum of Moldova, Chisinau, Moldova - Our Small Enterprise Development group toured this museum.
July 13, 2015 – The Milestii Mici Wine Cellar, Milestii Mici, Moldova – Several of us Small Enterprise Development volunteers toured this beautiful place, and we took along a few of our Language Training Instructors just for fun!
